The smallest one that fits. Version 1 holds 21 modules per side; each later version adds 4. The tool reports the version it chose.
What is error correction?
Extra data added so a scanner can rebuild a damaged code. Level H tolerates the most damage but stores less data per square.
Can I use these QR codes commercially?

Do QR codes expire?

Encode HELLO WORLD at error correction level M. The tool selects version 1 — 21 modules per side — and needs 228 dark modules.
- Length and character set determine the version: a short URL may fit in version 2 (25 modules).
- Switching to level H adds redundancy, so the same text may need a larger version.
