What does "at least once" mean?
It is the probability that the event occurs one or more times across all trials — 1 minus the probability it never happens.
Why do rare events become likely over many trials?
Because the chance of avoiding the event shrinks exponentially: (1 − p)ⁿ gets small as n grows.
What are odds?
Odds compare the chance the event happens to the chance it doesn't, e.g. 1 in 6 becomes odds of 1:5.
What is independent trials mean?
Each trial's outcome doesn't affect the next — like coin flips. Drawing cards without replacement is not independent.
Practical Example
What is the probability of getting at least one "6" in 3 dice rolls?
- P(no 6 in one roll) = 5/6 ≈ 0.833
- P(no 6 in 3 rolls) = (5/6)³ ≈ 0.579
- P(at least one 6) = 1 − 0.579 ≈ 0.421 (42.1%)
