Frequently Asked Questions
What does the angle mean?
It's the compass bearing from your location to the Kaaba along a great circle. 90° = east, 180° = south, 270° = west, 0°/360° = north.
Why isn't it a straight line on maps?
Because the Earth is spherical, the shortest path is a great circle that appears curved on flat maps.
Is GPS needed?
No — enter your city's coordinates manually. "Use my location" is a convenience when you allow it.
Is the result an estimate?
It's a precise spherical-geometry calculation. Local magnetic declination can shift a physical compass slightly.
Practical Example
From Istanbul (41.01° N, 28.98° E), the great-circle bearing to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E) is about 152° — roughly southeast — over a distance of about 2,400 km. From New York (40.71° N, 74.01° W) the bearing is about 58° (northeast), about 10,300 km away.
