What is a public IP address?

The address the rest of the internet uses to reach you. Routers hide your local devices behind one public IP (NAT).

Is my public IP the same as my local IP?

No. Your device has a private IP (192.168.x.x) on your local network, and your router has a public IP on the internet.

Does my IP reveal my location?

Usually a city-level approximation from your ISP's records, not your exact address.

Can this tool see my history or files?

No. It only reads the IP visible to this website plus browser/OS details available to every site you visit.

On a typical home network you see two different addresses:

Local IP: 192.168.1.10 — a private address only reachable inside your network (RFC 1918 range).
Public IP: e.g. 203.0.113.7 — the address websites and services see, shared by every device on your connection via NAT.

Public IP — your address on the internet as the rest of the world sees it; it can differ from your device's local IP.
IP version — IPv4 (four octets like 192.168.1.10) or the newer 128-bit IPv6 format; some connections use both.
Connection type — the effective network speed class reported by your browser, such as 4g or wifi.
