How to Use This Time Duration Calculator
Pick a start time and an end time. The calculator reports the gap as decimal hours, total minutes and total seconds.
- Same day — 09:00 to 17:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes (8.5 hours).
- Overnight — 22:00 to 06:00 is treated as 8 hours, not a negative span.
- Equal times — start and end the same gives 0, not a full day.
Practical Example
A shift from 09:00 to 17:30:
- Start = 9 × 60 = 540 minutes past midnight
- End = 17 × 60 + 30 = 1050 minutes
- Duration = 1050 − 540 = 510 minutes = 8.5 hours = 30,600 seconds

- Minutes — the same span in whole minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if the end time is earlier than the start?
The calculator assumes the end is the next day and adds 24 hours. 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours.
Does this include dates?

Are seconds from the time input used?
The HTML time field may include seconds. Those seconds are included in the total.
Is this the same as work hours?
