Why do letters have different bar lengths?

Each bar represents that character's count relative to the most frequent character, so you can compare shares at a glance.

Are spaces counted?

Yes — all characters are counted, including spaces, punctuation and newlines.

What is frequency analysis used for?

Cipher puzzles, typography research, keystroke studies and simple text forensics.

Toggling "Ignore case" merges Banana and banana into a single count of 6 for a and 4 for n.

Count — how many times each exact character appears in your text, including spaces and punctuation.
Bar length — the character's share relative to the most frequent one, so 50% means half as many occurrences.
Sorted order — characters are ranked from most to least frequent, which is how frequency analysis is usually read.
